Trainer to Fighter

One on the unsung heroes of WWII is the vast training network for pilots. The US developed hundreds of training bases across the US producing pilots for all facets of the USAAF. The AT-6 Texan (yellow aircraft) was built by North American just as the famous P-51 Mustang. The AT-6, the AT stand for Advance Trainer and was often what pilots trained in before moving up the P-51. Getting the two aircraft types in the air together today is something you probably didn’t see back in the day. But the lessons from the AT-6 is credited by most fighter pilots as to how them became such good pilots.
