The PBY Catalina

The PBY Catalina flying boat was a very simplistic plane that was vital especially in the Pacific Theater. The most produced flying boat in WWII, 3281 were made in US/Canada and even more in Russia. Their role was wide spread from sub hunter to rescuing downed pilots. After the way, many were placed in service fighting forest fires and bombers. Today about 30 survive as airworthy. This one is parked at Fantasy of Flight and is not airworthy and there are no plans to make it such. Sadly, the price of restoration greatly our strips the worth of the aircraft. Some gorgeous example like Miss Pick Up are airworthy.
