The Chance Vought F4U-5N

Known to many as the Dash 5, the F4U-5N Corsair is the last Corsair line with the 5N being the night fighter version on the 5. The 5N first saw service starting in 1950 in Korea. It’s role turned into ground support when enemies stated depending on the cover of night for movement. The F4U-5 was a 1946 modification of the F4U-4 increasing the F4U-4 Corsair’s overall performance with the addition of more powerful, R-2800-32W 2,300 hp engine with a fully automatic two-stage supercharger. The 5N was not the last version of the Corsair and Korea was not the end of its service yet there are very few Dash 5s still flying today. This one’s home is the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, TX
