A Sign of Summer – The Stearman

Flying over the Kansas countryside, this gorgeous PT-17 Stearman takes flight on a gorgeous summer’s eve. After WWII, seemingly thousands of Stearmans were turned into drop dusters and then when other aircraft took their place, they were salvaged, buried or left to rot. Luckily many have been restored and fly today to our delight. I’ve lost track of how many Stearmans I’ve photographed air to air but it can never be enough. Flying over a Kansas field on the close of a summer day was the perfect way to photography this one.
